Why did I choose to complete a residency?
I chose to complete a residency because it aligned with my career goals. Upon graduation, my goal was to advance my clinical skills in order to be able to provide quality care to patients. A residency provides a year of coaching in multidisciplinary areas of practice and develops skills needed in current pharmacy practice which would help me obtain this goal. During my career, I aspire to hold leadership, managerial and preceptor roles within a healthcare organization. A residency is designed to develop leadership and management skills while many programs also provide opportunities for teaching experiences. A residency would help me continue to grow as a pharmacist and is the reason why I chose to complete a residency.

Why did I choose St. Anthony’s Hospital at BayCare?
An important part of BayCare’s mission is to provide high-quality, compassionate care and it shows in everything the healthcare system does. Prior to applying for a residency, I was aware of the reputation of the BayCare health system. Patients promoted the healthcare system and employees would say that BayCare takes care of their employees. It was evident that BayCare’s culture was committed to meeting community needs and providing compassionate care.  It was also evident that BayCare’s culture was not just about being a well-functioning team, they were a family, and I wanted to be a part of that family.  I chose St. Anthony’s Hospital within BayCare because of the wide range of multidisciplinary areas of practice the program offered and the interview process that I experienced. Interviews are often intimidating, but at St. Anthony’s I felt comfortable and supported during the entire interview.  I discovered that many of the preceptors were past residents at the hospital. This showed me that they wanted to stay and be a part of something special and that BayCare’s culture was irreplaceable.
