Claudia Ortiz-Lopez

Why did I choose to complete a residency?
I chose to complete a PGY2 in Pediatric Pharmacy to expand upon my capabilities as a clinician, researcher and leader within the profession of pharmacy. I find the interpretation of the gray areas in evidence based pediatric medicine and its application to promote patient safety invigorating and rewarding. I was drawn to serve this patient population that has unique disease states and a potential for numerous pharmacy interventions.

Why did I choose St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital at BayCare?
I chose to pursue the Pediatric Pharmacy Residency at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital because of their commitment to serve the community. I was attracted to this program for the experience it provides via a broad array of rotation opportunities as well as ample teaching opportunities. The pharmacists at BayCare play an integral role within the multidisciplinary healthcare team and challenge residents to grow into independent practitioners. Ultimately, as I met everyone here I felt immediately welcome, and completely supported to become a successful pediatric clinician.
