Why did I choose to complete a PGY2 residency?
I chose to pursue a PGY2 residency in Emergency Medicine to build upon the clinical foundation I developed during PGY1 and to gain the specialized skills necessary to thrive in high-acuity, fast-paced environments. During my PGY1, I found myself drawn to the dynamic nature of the emergency department, where pharmacists play a critical role in rapid decision-making, resuscitation efforts, toxicologic emergencies, and procedural sedation. I wanted a PGY2 experience that would challenge me to think critically, collaborate under pressure, and serve as a dependable resource for both the medical team and patients during moments of crisis.

Why did I choose St. Joseph’s Hospital at BayCare?
I chose to complete my PGY2 residency at St. Joseph’s because it was immediately clear during the interview process that the program fosters a highly supportive and resident-focused environment. I was especially drawn to the strong culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, where pharmacists are valued members of the healthcare team and work closely with physicians, nurses, and other providers to optimize patient care. The challenging yet enriching experiences offered through this program will equip me with the advanced clinical skills, confidence, and versatility needed to become a well-rounded emergency medicine pharmacist.
