Why did I choose to complete a PGY2 residency?
I choose to complete a second year of pharmacy residency to specialize in my area of interest in Ambulatory Care. I aspire to become a Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, and to have a collaborative practice agreement with primary care physicians so that I may assist in the management of chronic disease for patients. I also would like to help treat patients by increasing medication access and adherence, as well as overall health education for the patient population I will be serving. Pharmacy residency is not only the fastest way to achieve these goals, but the opportunity that will provide me with the best education and growth as I pursue them.
Why did I choose Winter Haven Hospital at BayCare?
I chose the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Resident at Winter Haven Hospital because of what the program has to offer. Multiple rotations including my main areas of interest, endocrinology and heart failure/heart function clinic. The interview the RPD Dr. Mcdonald was reassuring that although the program will be rigorous, I will not be without support from her and my other preceptors. Also, while being a new program, the model of this program will model the Turley hospital program which also transitioned from an inpatient/ambulatory PGY-1 program to separate programs, which helped assure me that the program will be ran from professionals with experience, and that the program will reach accreditation status by the end of the year.
