Why did I choose to complete a residency?
I chose to pursue a pharmacy residency because of my passion for acute care pharmacy and my desire to further develop my clinical skills. Through my experiences at the University of Florida and during my APPE rotations, I witnessed firsthand the significant impact hospital pharmacists have on patient care. I was inspired by their ability to make meaningful pharmacologic interventions, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and optimize medication therapy to improve patient outcomes. These experiences reinforced my interest in practicing in the acute care setting and showed me the difference I can make as a pharmacist. Additionally, I have strong interests in both pediatrics and critical care, and a residency will provide the structured training and experiences needed to expand my knowledge and build expertise in these areas. Overall, I am drawn to the fast-paced, patient-centered nature of acute care pharmacy and look forward to developing into a clinical pharmacist who can make meaningful contributions to patient care.
Why did I choose St. Joseph’s Hospital at BayCare?
I chose to complete my residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital because of the exceptional experiences I had during my APPE rotations. Throughout my rotations, I was exposed to a variety of practice areas and had opportunities to complete projects and presentations, including a medication-use evaluation, journal clubs, and patient case presentations. These experiences helped strengthen my clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills. What stood out most to me was the quality of mentorship I received from my preceptors. Each preceptor challenged me in a unique way, encouraged my professional growth, and created a supportive learning environment where I felt comfortable asking questions and expanding my clinical abilities. Through their guidance, I grew as a student pharmacist, and I knew that continuing my training at St. Joseph’s would provide the ideal environment to further develop as a clinician. In addition to the strong learning opportunities, I was drawn to the collaborative culture and the investment that the pharmacy team places in resident success. I loved my time here as a student, and I am excited to continue my training at St. Joseph’s Hospital and build on the foundation that was established during my APPE rotations.
