Why did I choose to complete a residency?
I chose to pursue a pharmacy residency because I wanted to continue expanding my clinical knowledge while gaining exposure to a wide range of pharmacy practice areas. Residency training provides a unique opportunity to develop critical thinking, strengthen patient care skills, and learn from experienced pharmacists, preceptors, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Additionally, the HSPAL (Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership) residency stood out to me because it offers the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree while developing leadership and administrative skills. The administrative track will allow me to gain experience in health-system management, strategic planning, operations, and pharmacy leadership, helping me build a strong foundation for future leadership roles. I also look forward to building meaningful relationships with my co-residents, pharmacists, preceptors, and organizational leaders, as these connections will contribute greatly to my professional and personal development throughout the residency year.
Why did I choose St. Joseph’s Hospital at BayCare?
I chose this BayCare hospital site primarily because of its HSPAL (Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership) residency program. I have a strong interest in pharmacy leadership and administration, and I am passionate about advocating for both my fellow healthcare professionals and the patients we serve. The HSPAL track provides a unique opportunity to develop the leadership, operational, and strategic skills needed to make a meaningful impact within a health system while continuing to grow as a clinician. In addition to the residency program itself, I have a personal connection to this hospital. Having grown up in the Tampa Bay area, I volunteered here during high school and have been familiar with the organization for many years. These experiences gave me an early appreciation for the hospital’s commitment to patient care and its positive role in the community. Furthermore, my parents work at this hospital and have always spoken highly of its culture, teamwork, and dedication to its employees. Hearing about their experiences and seeing the organization’s values in action made me confident that this would be an excellent place for both my professional and personal growth.
